Sodium Benzoate Preservative 1 Gallon
The average shelf life of unpreserved syrup is between 5 and 14 days. Thatís why, at 1-800-Shaved-Ice, we carry sodium benzoate preservative in 1-gallon jugs. Sodium benzoate extends the shelf life of your syrup so that you donít have to throw away unsold portions. When used with citric acid, just one jug of our sodium benzoate can preserve 128 gallons of simple syrup. Itís ideal for syrups made from concentrate, because they donít contain any preservatives. That means youíll save money on concentrates and time on mixing new flavors.
To increase the shelf life of your syrup simply add 1 ounce of Sodium Benzoate and 1/4 ounce of Citric Acid to each gallon of syrup that you make. Adding the correct amounts of sodium benzoate and citric acid to your syrup can extend the shelf life for up to six months. Please note that neither preservative will work without the addition of the other one.
Please note that our sodium benzoate is developed for our shaved ice recipes only. It is not recommended for use in other recipes such as jams, jellies, vegetable canning, margaritas etc. For use in recipes other than shaved ice syrups, please contact a food scientist in your area.
